Using A Search Engine To Help You Choose A Realtor
Who would you rather have working for you, one who sees you only as dollars and cents, or a Realtor who sees you as a client, one he or she will work for and with to maximize the dollars you receive for your home.
In today's tech oriented world you need to know where and how your property will be advertised. Does the agent of your choice have a strong web presence with multiple web sites and blogs or do they rely on cookie cutter sites that everyone in the office uses and have little if any search engine relevance.
Do they rely only on the national realtor.ca web site or is it just one of the web based tools they use. One of the best ways I know how to find out who has the best web presence is to Google some search terms to see who sits in the number one spot or at least in the top ten. Take several search terms and Google them, Check out who has the best rankings, then decide which of those you want working with you.
Remember real estate is local and your local agent is the most knowledgable about the local area and the local real estate market.

Kathy, those are great tips! In this age of technology and web-based information, it's applicable to all regions and industries, but especially when you're hiring a professional to market/sale something for you!
Kathy - Excellent presentation on the power of Google searches in Uxbridge.
Kathy, From what I hear (and see) people go directly to Google. Now with sites like Yelp and Yahoo Local they also want to see your ratings.....I have heard that from several clients. A recent report said Yelp can make or break a business and I wouldn't doubt that.
Kathy,
Whenever I need to give out a referral (if I can't find someone on Active Rain), I do a google search....this hasn't always been the best choice though. I've sent referrals to a few agents because they had great web presence and website and they turned out to be very underhanded folks who treated the clients I sent them very poorly......I no longer just depend on a google search. Instead I try to get to know more about the person first....
Jo
Jo - as the title implies it is just part of the equation ... one also needs to talk with the agents to ensure you would be comfortable working with them ... even more so if you are referring that agent to someone else ... the person you are referring knows you and your standards and expects the same of the agents you are referring them too ...
Carole - we all have our favourite search engine but for some one searching for an agent the process would be the same for all.
Marc - it is part of the same process I use when searching for some one to refer a client to.
Brett - I would certainly use more than one set of key words depending on the type of person I am ... for instance if I were a senior or someone looking for a senior I would use senior as part of my search ie: Uxbridge senior real estate or uxbridge Ontario senior senior real estate
Kathy
As with anything, a referral or a google search, references would be a good start to finding out what kind of standards a person does have.
